Volume

Volume

London, 2006

Volume was the result of a collaboration between United Visual Artists, Neil Davidge and Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack).

A performative work, Volume’s field of 48 luminous, sound-emitting columns respond to movement, creating a direct multi-layered relationship between the individual and a single column, and at a larger scale the powerful experience of the sculpture in its entirety as visitors weave a path through it creating their own unique journey in light and music.

The minimalist visual language and use of LEDs form a startling juxtaposition with the decorative, Italianate architecture of the original setting, the John Madejski garden at the V&A Museum in London. Since its first appearance there in 2006, Volume has toured internationally including to Hong Kong, Taiwan, St. Petersburg, Bucharest, Melbourne and Paris.
