Etymologies draws on the writings of Freud and Jung, two psychoanalysts who dealt with the subconscious, generating new poetic compositions through the algorithmic reordering of their texts. A kind of posthumous conversation between the two authors emerges as the deconstructed source material is reduced to lists of interlinked words, creating new associations that reflect on the nature of consciousness, memory, and the process of creation in an automated world. Authorship becomes ambiguous as the original texts are re-interpreted by the mechanical mind and, finally, by the viewer, who engages in the process of inference, seeking out logic and meaning in the cascading streams of text.
